Over the last couple of months we’ve been delivering a new ‘Alcohol Health Champions’ training in partnership with Surrey County Council and Voluntary Action South West Surrey.
This is a programme which has recruited local people in all osrts of roles to learn about alcohol and how to have useful conversations with people who are drinking above recommended limits, without nagging!
Our colleague at Voluntary Action South West Surrey compiled the data from the last session and found that 100% of participants strongly agreed the training was useful, relevant, and the trainer was helpful. 87.5% strongly agreed they gained new ideas; 12.5% agreed.
They said that the most useful parts of the day were:
- Learning about alcohol units and how to calculate them.
- Techniques for initiating and managing conversations about alcohol.
- Frames acronym for structured advice.
- Sharing experiences and group discussions.Toolkit confirmation and practical examples.
Further positive comments were:
- Training was engaging, interactive, and well-paced.
- Good balance of slides, discussions, and activities.
- Trainer (Nell) was personable and inclusive.
- Participants valued hearing others’ experiences.
The majority said they had no suggestions for improvement or that it was ‘perfect’
